The new way we do ‘Church’

The current global pandemic has greatly affected the way churches are gathering all over the world. In Timor Leste the situation is no different with many churches turning to social media to connect with their members.

But in our country, where our people have no or very limited access to internet, even social media has its limitations.

Because our supporters have stood with Radio Voz over the years, right now we are seeing the station becoming an even more helpful tool to serve the churches in Timor Leste.

So far four churches have asked Radio Voz help to gather their congregation on air to celebrate their Sunday services. Some churches have been able to combine both social media and radio for an even wider reach. It is for us a privilege to be able to provide this support to the people of God in Timor Leste. And we couldn’t do it without your prayerful support.

In addition, at 6:00am each day Radio Voz has the privilege of leading our nation in prayer with pastors’ praying on air for the nation and for our authorities in charge in this difficult time.

We are seeing the Lord working wonderfully even in the midst of this global crises and we invite you to join us in prayer or for the Sunday service. If you’d like prayer please let us know.

God bless

Pastor Elienae

What Can We Learn From the Persecuted Church?

While how we attend church on a weekly basis is looking a little different during the Coronavirus crisis, there are some amazing organisations out there helping people make it easier for Christians to fellowship together in small groups in homes.

While Christians in Australia aren’t being forced into lockdown out of persecution, Open Doors CEO Mike Gore shared on Vision Christian Radio that there is actually a lot we can learn from the persecuted Church who have been operating in House Churches for decades.

“The funny thing is that we often say that the persecuted nations meet in homes. But the reality is that it’s part of the normal mechanics and rhythms of church in those nations.  It’s not as if they go ‘because we’re persecuted we have to do this’, they’re not even used to centralised fellowship gatherings.”

Mike Gore
Mike Gore, CEO of Open Doors Australia

Mike shares that Open Doors has a heart not only to support Christians in persecuted countries, but also to help the Church in Australia navigate this new way of fellowshipping which may last for as long as 12 months.

Open Doors has created a set of free weekly downloadable resources for people who want to run House Churches in their homes.

“The resources are really created to help Pastors.  They’re not to be a para-church or something separate.  The reality is, that I believe looking over the next twelve months, if I put myself in the shoes of a Pastor – one of the hardest things is just going to be keeping the Church community together and doing pastoral services.”

“So what we’re trying to do is to take the worry out of creating content on a weekly basis, giving them something they can hopefully rely on.”

“We’re not making it all about the persecuted Church every week.  We’re trying to learn from them as mentors.  But we’re also not trying to undermine or undercut Church leadership, we really want to be complimentative to help all of us get through this next season.”

For more information and to sign up for these free house church resources, visit the House Church by Open Doors website.

The Word for Today is still coming

If you are a praying person, please pray.

There are 1,000 copies of The Word for Today printed and on their way to Timor-Leste. They should have arrived in late December. But for a complex set of reasons they ended up being offloaded in Jakarta. Our friends at UCB Asia Pacific and Radio Lisbeth are working hard with us to try and get them delivered here as soon as possible so we can make them available to you.  It is proving very frustrating and very expensive.

Please join us in praying the books will be released from the port in Jakarta, all the necessary authority will be granted and the costs will be kept as low as possible.

We are really looking forward to being able to share these wonderful daily devotionals with you.

New Studios Taking Shape

We figured that the best way to get some good local Christian talent on our radio was to build a studio where we can record it. So that’s what we are doing.

As well as building a small studio for our news team to record their bulletins we are building a larger studio where we hope to be able to invite local singers and musicians to record their songs so ultimately we can play them on air.

We are grateful for Rudy from UCB Asia Pacific for making the trip over from Australia to help our wonderful team of local volunteers as they built soundproof walls as the first stage of this massive operation.

We still have a long way to go, but with your prayers and support we’ll see this dream become a reality, so thank you!
